Approval has been granted for our client’s second successful consent for their new model of care whereby residents can truly age in place. The 69 apartment scheme replaces an existing approval for a 68 bed care home. The scheme also has an Integrated Community Health Centre and associated parking onsite.

The site already has an existing C2 use care home on it which is no longer suitable for the local environment requirements. The approved bespoke care offering truly allows residents to age in place in a home from home environment. The rising demand for accommodation is vast from an increasingly dependent elderly population and this approval will help this.

The client’s model of care will provide residents with a home that can adapt to their changing needs. The additional bedroom gives the opportunity for a carer to stay or “live in”, which will allow a high level of care to be provided to the resident if the need arises, and while it is not required a dedicated team of experts will be available to lead an active and independent lifestyle. This format of care will mean that residents will not need to move into a care home, allowing them to truly age in place.

The on-site facilities allow residents ample choice of how they would like to live, with restaurant, hydrotherapy pool and gym being developed in addition to a community room which will form an integral part of the strategy for the provision of care for the elderly in the area. These amenities will be for the residents within the scheme, as well as providing these facilities for the residents of the existing care home on site.

Focus on access to outside space ensures that should the need arise for isolation. Through illness, then the resident will still have access to private external spaces plus views to green spaces and park lands.

The facility will support the local elderly community and improve the quality of life and care for future residents going forward.
