Our ageing population is not news, but recent stats show how critical the situation is. The World Health Organization forecasts that by 2030 1 in 6 people worldwide will be over 60 years of age.

There are around 16,700 care homes in the UK, around 70 per cent of them residential, according to Care Home UK, with nearly half a million people living in them.
