Rukhsar Zahid
Architect

What do you do at Carless + Adams?

I spend much of my time designing care homes from initial concept through to planning application. This involves developing designs in line with the client’s brief, while liaising with consultants and the local authorities to secure planning approval. I am also involved in progressing the design through later stages, co-ordinating the design with specialists’ information helping to deliver projects through tender and into construction.

Why did you get into architecture?
I have been motivated to pursue a career in architecture having recognised the impact of good design and the influence it has on our environment and lifestyles. I love that this industry offers the opportunity to break walls as well as build them so people can be better integrated with their surroundings. Being part of something that can create a positive social impact feels rewarding and develops sustainable communities.

What do you do outside of Carless + Adams?

When I’m not drawing up care homes, I continue to sketch buildings of interest or distract myself with a game of chess, badminton, and the occasional batch of brownies (which are really tasty says the ed!).
