Alexandra House Care Home

Project Brief
To maximise the constraints of a site in an urban area, whilst retaining the need to provide specialist dementia care within a spacious environment. Planning requirements also recognised the need for the building to be constructed sympathetically to reflect the local residential properties.
Outcome
Built to a traditional block and beam specification, this carefully designed two-storey, 58-bedroom care home replaced an original existing care home which had to be demolished. Externally, a bespoke hard and soft landscaping scheme added outdoor space for the residents.
Demolition was strictly controlled and safely completed including the successful removal of asbestos throughout the building. The site itself presented safety challenges due to its relatively small size, as well as its location in a residential area – strict vehicle and pedestrian segregation was essential, as was the delivery and storage of materials.
A robust traffic management plan, successfully adhered to by the Principal Contractor and aided by our CDM department, ensured that the project was completed safely.
