Built to service the needs of the local area, and nestled in the beautiful Evesham countryside, this crematorium was constructed in block and brick, with a Glulam frame for the main chapel, porch echre and separate floral tribute area. The site presented some challenges – existing trees had to be re-located as they were identified as bat roosts, and the initial groundworks were hampered by a combination of a wet winter and heavy clay soil, needing more excavations to create drainage channels. A high-voltage mains electrical cable ran across part of the site, and was re-routed around the site boundary before work commenced. The Principal Contractor managed health and safety to a high standard, employing suitable excavation barriers where needed, ensuring good traffic and personnel segregation and using MEWPS (mobile elevated work platforms) to work on difficult to reach areas.
